Habitat
Pelagic. Also coastal inshore waters and subtropical and tropical dry forest during breeding season.

Population
Estimated population is <50 (2010).
Status PE
Possibly extinct. No confirmed sightings since 1912. Decline probably due to predation by feral cats and destruction of nesting habitat by goats.

Nest
In a burrow in soft soil under pine and cyprus trees.
Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Leach's Storm Petrel (Hydrobates leucorhous).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Leach's Storm Petrel (Hydrobates leucorhous) which has darker underwing, but very difficult to separate.
