Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mangrove Rail (Rallus longirostris).
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
obsoletus Ridgway, 1874 - Central California, mainly in San Francisco Bay. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mangrove Rail (Rallus longirostris).
levipes Bangs, 1899 - Coastal central California to northern Baja California. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mangrove Rail (Rallus longirostris).
yumanensis Dickey, 1923 - South-eastern California, southern Arizona and north-western Mexico. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mangrove Rail (Rallus longirostris).
beldingi Ridgway, 1882 - Southern Baja California. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Mangrove Rail (Rallus longirostris).
