Subspecies
Formerly considered conspecific with Thicket Antpitta (Hylopezus dives), but differs distinctly in voice and plumage. Possibly conspecific with vocally similar Amazonian Antpitta (Hylopezus berlepschi).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
caquetae Chapman, 1923 - Western Caquetá, in south-eastern Colombia.
fulviventris (Sclater, 1858) - Eastern Ecuador and northern Peru (south to lower R Cenepa and Iquitos).
