Subspecies
Has been thought to form a superspecies with Black-lored Babbler (Turdoides sharpei) and Scaly Babbler (Turdoides squamulata), possibly including also Hinde's Babbler (Turdoides hindei).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
hypoleuca (Cabanis, 1878) - Central and southern Kenya south to northern Tanzania (Mt Kilimanjaro).
rufuensis (Neumann, 1906) - North-eastern Tanzania.
