Subspecies
Relationships of genus uncertain. Most of recent studies indicate that it should be placed in the New World family Vireonidae.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
occidentalis Harington, 1913 - Western Himalayas from north-eastern Pakistan east to western Nepal.
xanthochlorus Gray, 1846 - Central Nepal east to Bhutan, north-eastern India (central Arunachal Pradesh) and adjacent southern China (south-eastern Xizang).
hybrida Harington, 1913 - North-eastern India (Nagaland south to Mizoram) and western Myanmar.
pallidus (David, 1871) - Northern Myanmar, and south-central and south-eastern China from south-eastern Gansu and southern Shaanxi south to western and northern Sichuan, Yunnan (except south) and southern Guizhou, and southern Zhejiang and northern Fujian.
