Subspecies
Forms a species pair with Striated Prinia (Prinia crinigera) and was for long considered conspecific, and the two are vocally very similar, but they differ in habitat and altitude preferences, as well as in breeding plumages, and more or less replace each other geographically.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
cooki (Harington, 1913) - Central and eastern Myanmar, southern China (southern Yunnan), northern and eastern Thailand, Cambodia (Kompong Thom) and northern and southern Laos.
bangsi (La Touche, 1922) - South-eastern Yunnan (southern China).
rocki Deignan, 1957 - Lang Bian Plateau, in south-central Vietnam.
