Subspecies
Genus probably closely related to Tmetothylacus and Hemimacronyx. Subspecies stabilior and colletti merged by some authors.
Proposed subspecies latimerae (Eastern Cape) included within colletti.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
stabilior (Linnaeus, 1766) - Zimbabwe (central plateau east to Inyanga Mts) and adjacent Mozambique.
colletti Schou, 1908 - Extreme south-eastern Botswana, eastern South Africa (Northern and central North-west Provinces south to northern eastern Cape), Swaziland and Lesotho.
capensis (Linnaeus, 1766) - Coastal belt of south-western and southern South Africa.
