Hemitriccus zosterops (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into White-eyed Tody-tyrant (Hemitriccus zosterops) and White-bellied Tody-tyrant (Hemitriccus griseipectus) following SACC (2005).
Has often been considered conspecific with White-eyed Tody-tyrant (Hemitriccus zosterops), but the two show major differences in plumage and voice. Vocal characters suggest that subspecies naumburgae of that species may belong with present species.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
griseipectus (E. Snethlage, 1907) - Southern Amazonia, eastern Brazil.
naumburgae (Zimmer, JT, 1945) - North-eastern Brazil (Rio Grande do Norte south to Alagoas).
