Grey Gull (Larus modestus)

Inland deserts (mainly Atacama) of northern Chile and probably southern Peru; feeding birds and non-breeders range along coast from Ecuador (Manta, virtually on equator) south to south-central Chile (Valdivia).

Population
Estimated population is 25,000 (2010).

Nest
A scrape in the sand, usually near rocks, on barren montane desert, 35 - 100 km inland.

Subspecies
Most closely related to Heermann's Gull (Larus heermanni).

No subspecies.
