Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, dry forest. From sea-level - 800 m.

Range (Guide)

Madagascar (B) (NB).

Northern, north-western and western Madagascar, from Andavakoera in north, south to c. 70 km north of Morondava in west.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status NT
Forest habitat destruction through burning and catlle-grazing, extraction of timber, mining are the main threats.

Globular, composed of from moss, bark and leaf strips, held together with spiders' webs, suspended from a low branch of an understorey tree.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Similar Species
Female from female Velvet Asity (Philepitta castanea) by the pale fleshy eye-ring, and the yellow-tinged underparts.
