Subspecies
Proposed subspecies cumingi (Samar and Leyte), boholensis (Bohol) and mearnsi (Mindanao) merged with mindanensis.

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

mindanensis Steere, 1890 - Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Panaon, Bohol, Mindanao and islets of Balut, Cabo, Malanipa, Buad and Maripipi, in eastern and southern Philippine Is.
alcasidi duPont & Rabor, 1973 - Dinagat and Siargao, in eastern Philippines.
striaticeps Sharpe, 1877 - Basilan and Malamaui (off western Mindanao).
kettlewelli Guillemard, 1885 - Sulu Archipelago, in south-western Philippines.
