Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest, high altitude grassland, lowland dry shrubland, dry savanna, plantations.
Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland.
Vagrant to Zimbabwe.
South Africa, southern and central Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, southern Mozambique and southern Botswana.
 
Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 100,000 (2010).

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Augur Buzzard (Buteo augur ) and Archer's Buzzard (Buteo archeri ). All sometimes considered conspecific. Limited overlap with Augur Buzzard (Buteo augur ) in central Namibia.
No subspecies.
