Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NR
Habitat destruction and degradation through burning and grazing is the main threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Bradypterus seebohmi (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Benguet Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella seebohmi), Timor Bush-Warbler (Locustella timorensis), Russet Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella mandelli) and Sunda Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella montis) following Dickinson et al. (2000).
Part of a species complex that also includes Taiwan Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella alishanensis), Russet Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella mandelli), Benguet Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella seebohmi), Brown Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella luteoventris) and Sunda Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella montis) and some or all are often treated as conspecific. Most similar to Sunda Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella montis) but with some features akin to those of Benguet Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella seebohmi), and has until recently been treated as a subspecies of one or the other.
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Sunda Grasshopper-warbler (Locustella montis).
