Subspecies
Genus differs considerably from other members of family, though shows certain structural similarities with Teledromas. Subspecies bitorquata has been treated by some authors as a dark variant of rufescens.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
bitorquata (Wied, 1831) - Eastern Bolivia (north-eastern Santa Cruz).
rufescens Hellmayr, 1924 - Central Brazil (from southern Pará south to eastern Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and interior Sío Paulo) and extreme eastern Paraguay.
torquata (Wied, 1831) - Eastern Brazil in southern Piauí and western Bahia.
