Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Long-billed Thrasher (Toxostoma longirostre) and Cozumel Thrasher (Toxostoma guttatum), and all are sometimes considered conspecific.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
longicauda (Baird, SF, 1858) - Great Plains from southern Canada (south-eastern Alberta east to south-western Ontario) southern in USA to Colorado and Kansas.
rufum (Linnaeus, 1758) - South-eastern Canada (south-eastern Ontario east to Nova Scotia) and central and eastern USA (south to eastern Texas and Gulf coast).
