Subtropical and tropical lowland dry grassland.
Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland.
Vagrant to Zimbabwe.
Namibia east to south-western Zimbabwe, south to South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho.

Habits
Usually in small groups.
Voice
A short, sharp 'peek', or 'piek'. Song is a varied mix of whistles and grating notes.
