Subspecies
Not recognized as a species by BirdLife International. Green-backed Heron (Butorides striata) and Galapagos Heron (Butorides sundevalli) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into Butorides striata following AOU (2003).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Green-backed Heron (Butorides striata).

No subspecies.
