Subspecies
Often placed in genus Bolborhynchus .
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
robertsi Carriker, 1933 - North-western Peru.
aurifrons (Lesson, 1830) - Central Peru.
margaritae (Berlioz & Dorst, 1956) - Southern Peru and central-western Bolivia to northern Chile and extreme north-western Argentina.
rubrirostris (Burmeister, 1860) - North-western Argentina to central Chile.
