Rainforests. Eucalypt woodlands and coastal scrubs adjacent to rainforest. Timbered watercourses, paperbark woodlands. Occasionally visits gardens and orchards to feed on figs, loquats and other fruit tree. From sea-level - 1,600 m.
coxeni Gould, 1867 - South-eastern Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Coxen's Fig-parrot (Cyclopsitta coxeni).
