Habitat
Undisturbed tracts of humid montane forest, favouring cloud oak and pine-oak forests, but has been found in disturbed habitats. From 1,525 - 3,500 m.
Guerrero (Sierra Madre del Sur) and Oaxaca (Sierra de Miahuatlan and Sierra de Yucuyacua), in south-western Mexico.
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat destruction and degradtion through clearance for timber and large-scale agricultural expansion is the main threat.

Habits
Forages in pairs or small groups, but sometimes joins mixed-species flocks in non-breeding season.
Voice
A repeated two-syllable, slightly nasal 'yeeyip yeeyip'. Also a squeaky chirping and nasal 'reek' alarm call.
