by Bram Piot from Kibira Forest NP (Teza), Burundi (song)
Subspecies
Apalis pulchra and Apalis ruwenzorii (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include ruwenzorii as a subspecies of pulchra. Both taxa are transferred into the genus Oreolais following Nguembock et al. (2008).
Forms a superspecies with Black-collared Apalis (Oreolais pulcher) and sometimes treated as conspecific. They may be better placed together in a separate genus. Birds from Rugege Forest, in Rwanda, described as a geographical subspecies, catiodes, but appear indistinguishable from other populations.
