Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Madagascar Blue-pigeon (Alectroenas madagascariensis) and Seychelles Blue-pigeon (Alectroenas pulcherrimus).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

minor von Berlepsch, 1898 - Aldabra Is.
sganzini (Bonaparte, 1854) - Comoro Is, on Ngazidja (Grand Comoro), Ndzuani (Anjouan) and Maore (Mayotte).
