Brazil (southern Pará, southern Maranhío, southern Piauí and western Bahia south to Mato Grosso do Sul and north-eastern Paraná), extreme central-eastern and north-eastern Paraguay (Concepción and Canindeyú) and extreme eastern Bolivia (north-eastern Santa Cruz).

Formerly placed in a monotypic genus, Uroleuca. Has been thought to form a superspecies with Violaceous Jay (Cyanocorax violaceus), Purplish Jay (Cyanocorax cyanomelas) and Azure Jay (Cyanocorax coeruleus).
