Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland dry shrubland and dry forest. From sea-level - 1,900 m, occasionally to 2,100 m.
Ecuador, Peru.

Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- parvistriatus Chapman, 1921 - Western Ecuador from Manabí south to Guayas.
- sclateri Taczanowski, 1877 - South-western Ecuador (El Oro, Loja) and extreme north-western Peru.
- porcullae Bond, J, 1954 - North-western Peru from central Piura south to northern Lambayeque.
