Open dry sclerophyll forest, wooded country and savanna, with open understorey of shrubs.

Habits
Usually in pairs, but also singly or loose groups. Most often observed on the ground.

Food
Seeds of grasses and herbaceous plants. Also native fruits and berries.

Voice
A far-carrying, mournful, slow, resonant and deeply vibrating, 'whooo', beginning softly, advertising call. A short, soft, 'whoo-hoo-hoo' uttered in display.

Nest
A frail saucer composed f twigs, in a fork of a tree or bush, up to 10 meters above the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2; smooth, lustrous white; ellipsoidal; about 33 x 25 mm. Incubation: 14 - 16 days; by both sexes.

Young
Semi-altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in 15 - 16 days.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Similar Species
Brush Bronzewing (Phaps elegans) which is slightly smaller, plumper and more compact, with shorter rounded wings and a shorter tail.
