Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
roseus (Pallas, 1776) - Breeds central and eastern Siberia from middle R Yenisey and R Nizhnyaya Tunguska east to upper R Lena, Yakutia and Kolymskiy Range, south to north-eastern Kazakhstan, Altai, Tannu-Ola, Sayan Mts, northern Mongolia and southern Sea of Okhotsk coast; migrates mainly to central Siberia (Tomsk region), eastern Mongolia, north-eastern and east-central China (eastern from Gansu, south to Jiangsu) and Korea.
portenkoi Browning, 1988 - Breeds northern Sakhalin I; migrates to southern Sakhalin and south to southern Korea and northern Japan (Hokkaido).
