Subspecies
Affinities unclear. Geographic variation is not very pronounced and mainly exists in presence or absence of eye-ring.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
exiguus Murphy, 1929 - Buka, Bougainville, Shortland Is and Choiseul, in northern Solomon Is.
metcalfii Tristram, 1894 - Santa Isabel and San Jorge, in north-central Solomons.
floridanus Rothschild & Hartert, 1901 - Florida Is, in east-central Solomons.
