First Described (Guide)
(Blyth, 1854)

Habitat
Temperate shrubland and forest, boreal forest. From 1,200 - 2,500 m, occasionally from sea-level - 3,600 m.

Range (Guide)
Afghanistan (B), India, Iran [Islamic Republic of] (P), Kazakhstan (B), Kyrgyzstan (B), Nepal, Pakistan, Tajikistan (B), Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

Vagrant to United Arab Emirates.

Breeds in mountains from southern Kazakhstan (Karatau Range), southern Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and west, northern and southern Kyrgyzstan south to extreme south-eastern Turkmenistan (Kugitang Range), Afghanistan, western and northern Pakistan, Kashmir and northern India (north-western Himachal Pradesh); winter range includes southern Afghanistan and the northern Punjab of Pakistan, but most move farther southern into northern Indian states (south to Gujarat, western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and north-eastern Maharashtra).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).
