A substantial structure of twigs, high in a tree or bush if no tall trees are available, with a soft lining.

3 - 6; light blue or green, variably spotted with olive and brown.
Subspecies
Thought to form a superspecies with Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix) and sometimes considered conspecific.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
corone Linnaeus, 1758 - Britain (except northern Scotland), France, Spain and Portugal east to Denmark, western Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, northern Italy and Switzerland. Many central European birds disperse south and west in winter, reaching Corsica, Sardinia and south-eastern Europe.
orientalis Eversmann, 1841 - Breeds from central Siberia (Russia) and northern Mongolia from R Yenisei east (north to northern limit of taiga) to Kamchatka, Kuril Is and Sakhalin I, and from central Kazakhstan, eastern Turkmenistan, north-eastern Afghanistan and extreme north-western Indian Subcontinent east through Tien Shan and across northern China (south to northern Qinghai, northern Sichuan and Hebei, with isolated population southern Yunnan) east to Japan (south to Kyushu). northern populations migrate south to eastern and south-eastern China, also south to north-eastern Iran, Baluchistan and northern Pakistan (NorthWest Frontier Province) in winter.
