Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status EN
Habitat destruction and fragmenation through clearance for timber, agriculture, human disturbance through road improvements, immigration and population growth, are the main threats.

Probably forms a superspecies with Peruvian Antpitta (Grallaricula peruviana).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Peruvian Antpitta (Grallaricula peruviana) which lacks ochraceous-buff forecrown and lores in male, and has buff lores in female, Ochre-breasted Antpitta (Grallaricula flavirostris) which has an ochraceous loral spot, and has buff, rather than white, underparts which are scalloped rather than streaked.
