Vagrant to Uruguay.

Introduced to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (E).

Population
Estimated population is 240,000 - 1,300,000 (2010).

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

picta (Gmelin, 1789) - Central Chile and central Argentina to Tierra del Fuego.
leucoptera (Gmelin, JF, 1789) - Falkland Is.
