Subspecies
Relationships uncertain. Suggested as forming a a superspecies with Grey-backed Sparrow-Lark (Eremopterix verticalis), sometimes expanded to include also Black-crowned Sparrow-Lark (Eremopterix nigriceps) and Fischer's Sparrow-Lark (Eremopterix leucopareia). Subspecies harrisoni weakly differentiated, perhaps indistinguishable from nominate.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
signatus (Oustalet, 1886) - Eastern and southern Ethiopia, north, central and southern Somalia and eastern Kenya.
harrisoni (Ogilvie-Grant, 1900) - Extreme south-eastern Sudan and north-western Kenya.
