Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Andean Tinamou (Nothoprocta pentlandii) and Chilean Tinamou (Nothoprocta perdicaria).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

cinerascens (Burmeister, 1860) - South-eastern Bolivia, north-western Paraguay, north-western and central Argentina.
parvimaculata Olrog, 1959 - North-western Argentina.
