Relationships uncertain. Has been thought to be closest to New Guinea White-eye (Zosterops novaeguineae), and dusky feather centres on forecrown and white-greyish abdomen may indicate relationship to Black-crowned White-eye (Zosterops atrifrons). Has been suggested to be related to Seram White-eye (Zosterops stalkeri), although both species may occur on Seram.
