May form a superspecies with Pied Triller (Lalage nigra), and the two are often considered conspecific. Nevertheless, on basis of plumage characters, Pied Triller (Lalage nigra)appears to be closer to White-shouldered Triller (Lalage sueurii) than to present species. Sympatry of present species with White-shouldered Triller (Lalage sueurii) in Sulawesi means that these two can not satisfactorily belong to the same superspecies.
