Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Indian Cuckooshrike (Coracina macei), Javan Cuckooshrike (Coracina javensis), Slaty Cuckooshrike (Coracina schistacea), Wallacean Cuckooshrike (Coracina personata), Black-faced Cuckooshrike (Coracina novaehollandiae), Buru Cuckooshrike (Coracina fortis), Coracina welchmani and South Melanesian Cuckooshrike (Coracina caledonica), possibly also including Stout-billed Cuckooshrike (Coracina caeruleogrisea).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

magnirostris (Bonaparte, 1850) - Northern Moluccas (Ternate, Halmahera, Kasiruta, Bacan).
atriceps (M�ller, 1843) - Seram (southern Moluccas).
