Subspecies
No subspecies.
Affinities uncertain. A recent proposal separates present genus and Falcunculus in a narrow family Falcunculidae.
Proposed subspecies clara, from central ranges (Weyland Mts east to Mt Hagen and Kubor Mts), considered inseparable from populations elsewhere.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- clara Stresemann & Paludan, 1934 - Central Highlands of New Guinea.
- nigropectus De Vis, 1894 - New Guinea.
