Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From sea-level - 1,300 m.

Range (Guide)

Indonesia.

Northern Moluccas, on Morotai, Halmahera, Bacan and perhaps Ternate.

Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 10,000 (2010).

Subspecies
Thought by some to be subspecies of Brown Goshawk (Accipiter fasciatus) or Grey Goshawk (Accipiter novaehollandiae), but best retained as full species due to differences in plumage and structure. May represent old endemic element of Moluccas.
