Islands in Java Sea (Seribu Is, Karimunjawa, Bawean, Maselembu Besar, Arends), Bali Sea (Kangean) and Flores Sea (Tukangbesi, Salayar, Tanahjampea, Kalao, Kalaotoa), locally north to Moluccas (Loloda Is, north-western Halmahera, Bacan, Tayandu, Kai Is), and through most of Lesser Sundas (Satonda, Flores, Besar, Pantar, Alor, Semau, Timor, Wetar, Kisar, Romang, Leti, Moa, Luang, Sermata, Damar, Babar, Tanimbar).
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through conversion to agriculture, logging, mining and road construction, are the main threats.

Subspecies
Closely related to Christmas Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula whartoni), which is sometimes considered a subspecies of present species. These form a superspecies with Island Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula pistrinaria) and Grey Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula pickeringii). Birds of Java Sea sometimes awarded subspecies zamydra, but supposed characters (especially brighter iridescence on upperparts) found in other populations.
