Lowland rainforest. From sea-level - 1,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Indonesia (B).

Southern Moluccas, on Seram, Haruku and Saparua; also Ambon, where possibly introduced.

Population
Estimated population is 62,000 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Habitat destruction and fragmentation through commercial timber extraction, settlement and hydroelectric projects, trapping for cage-bird trade, are the main threats.

Food
Berries, nuts, seeds, coconuts, insects and their larvae.

Voice
Cackles, screeches, nasal chattering and discordant trumpeting. Less raucous than most congeners.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with White Cockatoo (Cacatua alba).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Yellow-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea) and Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) both have yellow or orange crest feathers.
