Biak I and adjoining Supiori I, in Geelvink Bay (north-western New Guinea).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction due to logging and conversion to agriculture are the main threats.

Voice
A soft, trilling whistle like that of Common Paradise-Kingfisher (Tanysiptera galatea).

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Common Paradise-Kingfisher (Tanysiptera galatea), Kofiau Paradise-Kingfisher (Tanysiptera ellioti) and Numfor Paradise-Kingfisher (Tanysiptera carolinae). Commonly regarded as conspecific with Common Paradise-Kingfisher (Tanysiptera galatea) and Kofiau Paradise-Kingfisher (Tanysiptera ellioti), but morphological differences, combined with geographical isolation, support treatment as separate species.

No subspecies.
