Salvadori, 1879

Habitat
Middle and upper storeys of tropical lower montane forest. From 1,000 - 2,200 m.

Range (Guide)
Indonesia (B) (NB).

Mountains of Sumatra.
 
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Forest habitat loss through agricultural encroachment and logging, trade and hunting are the main threats.

Voice
A rather thin, high-pitched and drawn out whistle (like other cochoas).

Subspecies
Has been thought to form a superspecies with Javan Cochoa (Cochoa azurea), and has often been considered conspecific, but significant differences in size and plumage.

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Shiny Whistling-Thrush (Myophonus melanurus) which is more plump, noisy and more uniform dark blue.
