Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation through cattle-grazing, clearance for plantation agriculture and cattle pastures, are the main threats.

Voice
A slightly metallic ticking, repeated steadily. Also buzzy chatters.

Subspecies
Genus sometimes lumped into Agyrtria. These two usually merged into Amazilia. Forms a superspecies with Mangrove Hummingbird (Amazilia boucardi).
