Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, subtropical and tropical dry forest. From sea-level - 1,600 m.
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela.
Eastern Colombia through southern Venezuela to the Guianas, and southern throughout Amazonia.
 
Population
Estimated population is 1,000,000 (2010).

Subspecies
Recently split as valid species from Barred Forest-Falcon (Micrastur ruficollis ). Often considered to include Plumbeous Forest-falcon (Micrastur plumbeus ) as a subspecies.
