Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Sennar Penduline-Tit (Anthoscopus punctifrons), Mouse-coloured Penduline-Tit (Anthoscopus musculus), Mouse-coloured Penduline-Tit (Anthoscopus musculus) and Cape Penduline-Tit (Anthoscopus minutus). Geographical variation sometimes considered to be clinal, and complicated by effects of plumage wear. Species treated by some authorities as monotypic.
Proposed subspecies citrinus (described from Bozoum, near Bouar, in western Central African Republic) considered inseparable from senegalensis.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
senegalensis (Heuglin, 1864) - Extreme southern Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia and Guinea Bisseau east to northern Benin, northern Nigeria (east to western and southern areas of L Chad), northern Cameroon (Bénoué National Park) and western Central African Republic.
parvulus (Heuglin, 1864) - Southern Chad (southern and eastern from eastern shores of L Chad), southern Sudan and northern DRCongo, possibly also extreme north-western Uganda.
