Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, heavily degraded former forest. From 200 - 1,500 m.
Bolivia, Brazil (B), Colombia, Ecuador, Peru.

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- coccineipes Olson, 1973 - Southern Colombia and north-eastern Ecuador.
- castaneiceps (Sclater & Salvin, 1868) - Eastern Ecuador and northern Peru; presumably this subspecies in extreme north-western Bolivia (Pando).
