Eastern coast of Taiwan south of Taroko Gorge (including Hengchun Peninsula).

Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Hybridisation with the closely related Light-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis), which is spreading as a consequence of habitat alteration, is the main threat.

Similar Species
Light-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis) which has a white stripe through eye extending to hind crown, black cheeks and ear-coverts with white spot on ear-coverts.
