Vagrant to Greenland, United Kingdom.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Socorro Dove (Zenaida graysoni) and Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata), and until recently considered conspecific with Socorro Dove (Zenaida graysoni).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

  • marginella (Woodhouse, 1852)   -  British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba south to Baja California, Oklahoma and western Arkansas, and on to south-central Mexico.
  • carolinensis (Linnaeus, 1766)   -  Wisconsin, Michigan and southern Ontario to central New York, southern Maine, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and south to Gulf coast of Florida, Bahama Is and Bermuda.
  • macroura (Linnaeus, 1758)   -  Cuba, I of Pines, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico and Jamaica.
  • clarionensis (Townsend, CH, 1890)   -  Clarion I in Revillagigedo Archipelago (off western Mexico).
  • turturilla (Wetmore, 1956)   -  Costa Rica and western Panama.
