Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
hartlaubi Gould, 1861 - Southern Sierra Leone and southern Guinea east to southern Cameroon and south-western Central African Republic, and south to Gabon and northern Congo.
granti (Hartert, 1895) - East-central Congo and Zaire (Congo Basin) east to southern Sudan and western Uganda, and south to north-western Angola (Cabinda). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Eastern Little Hornbill (Horizocerus granti).
