Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 1,400 m, occasionally up to 1,650 m.

Range (Guide)

Bolivia, Brazil, Peru.

Eastern Peru (south of R Mara��n and R Amazon) and adjacent western Brazil (south-western Amazonas and western Acre) south to north-western Bolivia (La Paz).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Genetic data indicate that this species is sister to Flame-crested Tanager (Islerothraupis cristata) and that White-shouldered Tanager (Islerothraupis luctuosa) is sister to both of these.
